Susan Feitelberg is a financial advisor and Vice President for JPMorgan Chase. Early in her career, she noticed an unsettling trend among people in the poorest financial health. In most cases, they lacked both clearly defined goals and a realistic sense of their current financial condition. Her search for a way to motivate her financially undisciplined clients eventually led her to reflect on her experience as a competitive athlete. As a young teen, Susan had become a serious athlete and later started competing in triathlons. Establishing a series of goals, then applying herself to achieving them, had been central to her day-to-day life ever since. One day, she was seized with inspiration for maximizing the parallels between physical and financial fitness.
"I began developing a system for financial prioritizing, goal setting, and follow-up that tapped directly into the language, metaphors, and mind-set of athletic training. I began to view stamina, strength, conditioning, and even nutrition as metaphors for financial concepts," says Feitelberg. Gradually, her metaphors evolved into a seminar, a virtual "fitness regimen" for finances. After testing it on hundreds of clients and fellow brokers—and noting its consistent success and increasing popularity—she wanted to share it with all the financially unfit and overwhelmed people across America. The result is her unique guide to building money management muscles and achieving peak financial health, THE NET WORTH WORKOUT: A Powerful Program for a Lifetime of Financial Fitness (AMACOM).
Feitelberg has conducted more than 200 Net Worth Workout seminars to managers at many large companies and students at The Learning Annex. She has been quoted in articles for Money Magazine, The New York Times, and UPI, and has appeared on television and radio programs on including Nightline, Fox, PBS, and NY1. Despite her busy work schedule, Susan continues to devote time to training and competing as an athlete in New York City. She regularly takes part in triathlons and road races.
