Christopher A. Dustin received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Yale University, where he completed a dissertation on Ethics and the Possibility of Objectivity (with Jonathan Lear). He is currently Director of the Holy Cross First-Year Program. His courses include Philosophy of Art, Philosophy of Architecture, Classicism in Art & Thought, Philosophy and the Art of Abstraction, and Ethics & the Natural World. Professor Dustin has lectured and published widely on Plato, Aristotle, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, and Thoreau, and on topics at the intersection of ethics, aesthetics, and the philosophy of religion. His recent book -- Practicing Mortality: Art, Philosophy, and Contemplative Seeing, (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005) -- is co-authored with Joanna Ziegler (Professor of Visual Arts, Holy Cross). Dustin’s current research interests include the corruptibility of the philosophic nature in Plato’s Republic, indirect communication in Kierkegaard, and religion and freedom in Thoreau.
