Studies in World Literatures (STWL) is a program designed to
enable students to take courses in foreign literatures that
are taught in English with works in translation. Prospective
majors should be genuinely interested in literature as such
and optimally have some previous contact or exposure to foreign
literature and culture either through courses taken at Holy
Cross or through other academic experiences. Annually, many
of the STWL courses offered introduce the best and most representative
works in foreign literatures. All courses instruct students
in approaches to textual interpretation, analysis, and criticism,
as well as to an understanding of the cultural themes reflected
in the respective works.
