José Carlos Redondo Martínez

Foreign Language Assistant ~

Hello! My name is José Carlos Redondo Martínez, I'm 23 years old. I live in León (NW of Spain) with my two brothers and my parents. I studied at Universidad de León, I've just finished a BA in English. In my degree we study English language, English and American Literature, Phonetics, Translation, all related to English Language. I really like languages; I can also speak Italian and French.

During my university years, I have travelled a lot and I have studied in Scotland (UK) with a grant I was given, I enjoyed it! I love to speak English. Since I was a teenager, I used to spend my summers in Ireland. I have also done a course in Columbia University (NY) and this last year I have studied at UNSW (Sydney-Australia). I love to know new countries and new people, I think it is a good way to broaden your mind and learn from other cultures.

Another thing I love are sports: I love football (soccer), I started to play when I was a little child and now I'm playing for a team in my province. I am a fan of Real Madrid, the best football team in Spain :) Other sports I've played and love are swimming, tennis, ski and hiking. I love to escape to the mountains and go trekking. The province of León is very rich in valleys and mountains. We have beautiful rivers and forests where you can see some wild animals such as deer, trouts, Spanish brown bears, eagles, etc.

I also like to go to the cinema to watch films, I really like historical films such as Troy but I also like comedies and romantic films. Apart from cinema, in my spare time I usually read, above all novels and poetry, and paint in oils. Music is another passion, I usually go with my iPOD to the uni and when I'm tired at home, I listen to music while lying on the bed. I like any kind of music, above all rock and pop. I like American and British groups like The Killers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Offspring, Blink 182, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Muse,... But I also like Spanish groups too like El Canto Del Loco and Pereza and other kind of music such as reggae and Caribbean music.

I believe that I am forging my future in these years and all these trips and experiences are something essential in my personal growth. However, I feel I still have much to learn. Therefore, I'm very excited to participate in this exchange, which I see as an opportunity to prove myself in a different environment and to enjoy teaching and working in a very prestigious school like Holy Cross.

I hope to see you soon and spend a really nice time together in Massachusetts. See you!
