John
F. Lehy was born in Royalston, Massachusetts on November 7, 1850.
He entered Holy Cross in 1872 and after two years was admitted to
the Society of Jesus in 1874.
After courses in Classics, Mathematics, Literature
and Philosophy at Woodstock College, MD, he returned to Holy Cross
as teacher of Mathematics and French from 1879 to 1884. He was in
1887 and appointed its President in 1895. Rev.
Lehy was affectionately known by the Alumni as "Jeff". Practically
his whole life as a Jesuit was spent at Holy Cross. Only ill health
forced him to leave in 1917 for St. Andrew-on-the-Hudson, Poughkeepsie,
NY where he died on November 26, 1918.
