Composition
of the Committee
a. Ordinarily,
seven members will constitute the Student Advisory Committee
in each department. Each Spring one third-year student, one
second-year student and one first-year student will be elected
to one, two and three-year terms, respectively. One at-large
member will also be elected to serve a one-year term. Former
at-large members are eligible for reelection under these procedures.
Each Spring the combined membership of the new and old SAC
shall elect a Chair from among those members of the new SAC
who will have already served a year.
b. Elections
to the SAC shall be held during the Spring semester before
March 27. These elections shall be held under the supervision
of the students serving at that time on the SAC. Only majors
shall participate in the elections. All majors shall be eligible
to vote for the positions. The newly elected members will
take office immediately.
c. In
order to be eligible for election each candidate must meet
with the SAC Chair prior to the election. At that meeting
the Chair shall review with the candidates the official SAC
procedures and the responsibilities of SAC members.
d. Majoring
in a department is normally a requisite for election to and
continuing membership on the SAC in that department.
e. In
departments without a major or departments that are unable
to elect a SAC from among their majors, a SAC of seven students
will be elected by students in a manner appropriate to the
department.
f. Permanent
or temporary vacancies may be filled, until the next Spring
election, by election procedures to be determined by the remaining
members of the SAC.
g. If
the majority of the members of the SAC judge that a member
of the SAC is not performing his/her duties under the SAC
procedures, the SAC may, with the concurrence of the department
Chair, remove that member from the SAC. The vacancy will be
filled in accordance with Section A.f.
