Meet the Director

Christina Bi Chen ~ Smith 214 ~ 508-793-2713

How does an Asian-American, Protestant feminist find happiness at a college founded by Jesuit priests to educate Irish-Catholic boys?

When you follow your heart, you never know where you'll end up!

I came to Holy Cross because, after several years in business, I realized that I missed working in a liberal arts environment.  I wanted to work with undergraduates in a community dedicated to educating students who would use their minds, their hearts, and their hands to improve the world in which we all live.  Luckily, I found what I was looking for!

As Director of Academic Services & Learning Resources I enjoy working one-to-one with students from all parts of the college:  SPUD volunteers, student-athletes, peer educators, Presidential Scholars, and more!  One of the most satisfying parts of my job is to listen to the dreams of students and then to help connect them with resources and people who can help them achieve their goals.

Student goals are as different as each individual.  For one student, managing her time so she can be a campus leader and earn high grades is the goal; for another student, recognizing that he needs some extra help in a difficult class will be a first step toward pursuing an advanced degree; for still another student, selecting a major from the abundance of options is the immediate goal.

As an Asian-American, one of my passions is meeting and working with ALANA students in a variety of ways, such as participating in the Odyssey program for 1st-year ALANA and international students and leading workshops for our Passport program.

I know how important it is to see reflections of your own experiences and those of your family in the college curriculum.  It is also critical for each of us to explore ideas and experiences different from our own.  Whatever your background and interests are, I hope that you will take advantage of opportunities to savor the richness of the curriculum, activities, and the community that is Holy Cross.

Please accept this invitation to visit me in Smith 214.  Together, let's find out where your heart and dreams will take you !
