Esther Duflo, the Abdul Latif Jameel Professor of Poverty Alleviation and Development Economics at MIT and author of Poor Economics: A Radical Rethinking of the Way to Fight Global Poverty, explains how randomized trials of strategies used to address poverty yield proven outcomes that sometimes contradict policy and popular thinking.
