Requirements of the Chemistry Major

In effect for students matriculating after 2006

All chemistry majors are required to successfully complete the following courses:

Chem 181

Atoms & Molecules
Chem 221 & 222
Organic Chemistry 1 & 2
Chem 231
Introduction to Equilibrium & Reactivity
Chem (New)
Biochemistry
Chem 335
Classical Physical Chemistry + Lab
Chem 336
Modern Physical Chemistry
Chem 346
Instrumental Chemistry and Analytical Methods 1 Lab

Chem1 (New)

Advanced Physical and Analytical Chemistry Lab
Chem 351
Inorganic Chemistry+ Synthesis Lab
Phys 111/113
General Physics 1 with Laboratory
Phys 112/114
General Physics 2 with Laboratory
Math 131 & 132²
Calculus for the Physical and Life Sciences 1 & 2


In addition to the above classes, each chemistry major must also complete 1 additional advanced-level chemistry courses.

¹ These courses must be taken as course overloads; and, thus, do not count towards the 32 credits required for graduation.

² This requirement can also be fulfilled by taking Math 133 & Math 134 or Math 136.
