All chemistry majors from the class of 2011 and Beyond are required to complete the following:

Course Number
Course Title
CHEM 181
Atoms & Molecules
CHEM 221 & 222
Organic Chemistry I & II
CHEM 231
Equilibrium & Reactivity
CHEM 300 **
Instrumental Chemistry / Analytical Methods I
CHEM 335 **
Quantum Mechanics and Spectroscopy
Two of the following three courses must be taken:
CHEM 351
Inorganic Chemistry
CHEM 301
Biochemistry
CHEM 336
Chemical Thermodynamics
Students must also complete one elective listed as a CHEM course. Research in the Chemistry department can not be used to fulfill this requirement.
PHYS 111/115 **
General Physics I & II
# MATH 131/133 & 132/134
Calculus I & II

* These courses must be taken as an overload; they do not contribute toward the 32 classes that are required for graduation
** These classes have a lab component that must be taken as an overload.
# MATH 136 (AP calculus) can be taken in place of BOTH of these courses

ACS Certification:
Students choosing to receive certification from the American Chemical Society should take CHEM 181, 221, 222, 231, 300, 335, 301, 336, 351, and one (non-research) CHEM elective. These students must take one additional half-semester of lab (either Inorgamic Chemistry lab or Biochemistry lab) and complete a research project culminating in the preparation of a comprehensive report. Additionally, students should complete a second semester of Physics (PHYS 112/116).
