Slide
& Negative Scanning
We
will be glad to scan slide or negatives for you to produce digital images
for web pages, multimedia application development, images for use within
word processing documents and prints. The best quality results are with
35mm film, although we are able to scan larger formats.
We can also train
you to do it yourself either in A-V or in ITS's development lab which
has a similar setup. We use a Windows based system, but images can be
saved in Macintosh readable forms.
Here is a closer view of a negative being scanned. Adjustments such as
cropping, color balance, exposure and rotation are possible during scanning.
Post scanning manipulations are also available with a myriad of image
software available in A-V and other places throughout the campus.
Flatbed
Scanning
We also have flatbed scanners, such as pictured here, which are able to
do essentially the same types of things as the film scanner, only with
flat materials such as photos, book pages, large format film etc.
Flatbed scanners are located in the MRC (attached to a Macintosh system)
and A-V (PC System). Images can be saved in Mac/PC compatible formats
at either site. As above, we can do it for you or train you to do it yourself
both here and in ITS's Development Lab. The Scanners also have OCR (Optical
Character Reading) software on them that is able to convert the scanned
image into text, both English and several foreign languages.
N.B. Image files, depending upon format and quality, can be quite
large (too big for a diskette). If you have a ZIP® drive on your system,
we do have ZIP® drives on our systems which are perfect for transporting
those large files. We are also able to "burn" CD-ROMs.
