The FYP Seminars

FYP
seminars are taught by faculty drawn from the
arts and humanities, the social sciences and
the natural sciences. Each FYP faculty member
designs his or her seminar to address the theme
of the program from the context of his or her
discipline. In addition, since the seminiars
are intended for first-year students and assume
no prior college experience, they also provide
an introduction to the instructor's discipline.
The FYP seminars are limited to 15-16 students
per section and students remain in the same
section with the same faculty member for the
entire year. Each semester, a student's FYP
seminar counts as one course towards his or
her normal four course load. FYP seminars each
fulfill a single Common Area Requirement,
but typically cannot be used to satisfy departmental
requirements toward a major.
This
year the FYP seminars are being offered by faculty
in the departments of English, mathematics,
physics, psychology, and religious studies.
