Women's and Gender Studies
Requirements
The Women's
Studies Concentration consists of six courses:
- Introduction to Women's Studies, which includes a
community-based learning component linking theory to
practice.
- Four
elective courses chosen from the list of approved WGST courses.
One of these four courses should be a cross-cultural course
examining gender roles in society.
- Capstone
experience, which can be accomplished through a thesis, research
project, tutorial, local or Washington internship, or seminar.
The capstone project is subject to approval.
Please
note the following:
- No more
than two courses from your major may be applied to fulfill the
concentration's requirements.
- All
courses applied toward the concentration must be taken for a
letter grade.
- No more
than one approved internship may be applied toward the
concentration.
How to
apply :
You may
become a Women's and Gender Studies concentrator at any time until
the end of the second semester of your junior year, or at the
Director's discretion. In order to declare the concentration, you
should do the following:
- Obtain and
fill out a Change of Plan form from STAR.
- Obtain an
unofficial transcript from STAR and mark your major courses and
your concentration courses.
- Meet with
Pr. Maurer (Fenwick 229) to discuss your plans and obtain her
signature on your Change of Plan form.
- Meet with
Pr. Cunningham (Smith 329) to finalize your application and
obtain her signature.
