In the fall semester of 2007, members of Holy Cross’s Environmental Concerns Organization, Eco-Action, organized and completed a book drive with Judith Haran from the White Oak Land Conservation Society for the Trust for Public Land. Money raised from the sale of the books is being used to set land aside for conservation in Worcester County. Eco-Action members, working with Holy Cross faculty and staff, especially Professor Catherine Roberts, Chair of the Environmental Studies Department, collected over 800 books. As of this month 20% of them are now listed for sale on Amazon. Those that could not be sold were donated to charities, the majority of them to the Salvation Army. Many books also went to a woman in Worcester who raises funds online for her son’s autism treatment. Due to the success of the book drive at Holy Cross and a few other similar events, $10,000 was raised for the Trust for Public Land. Eco-Action is a student-run organization on campus that works to promote awareness of and activism for environmental and conservation issues.
