Studies Concentration
CURRICULAR
GUIDELINES
Students
will take a total of 7 courses, including
an
introductory course in environmental science: Environmental
Biology, Environmental Chemistry or equivalent. Science majors
will get an introduction to scientific aspects of environmental
issues through specialized (intermediate/advanced) coursework
in their own department or through an introductory environmental
course in another science department.

additional courses in the natural sciences and mathematics
an introductory course in environmental studies, such as Environmental History
2-3 other courses in the social sciences and humanities
The
7 courses must include a minimum of two intermediate/advanced
courses (at least one outside the major). Appropriate
tutorials, internships, and research projects may be counted
as intermediate/advanced courses with approval. Not more than
two courses from a student's major may be counted towards
the minor.
Students
are encouraged to consider fulfilling some of their requirements
during a "semester away", especially through
our partner school, the School for Field Studies at any one
of their 5 international locations where they will be immersed
in full-time study and research (and receive 4 course credits).
