The
Semester Away Program
Students
who wish to engage in academic work not available at
the College may submit proposals for a semester or full
academic year of study at another institution or fully
accredited program in the United States or Canada.
Proposals for specific environmental studies programs
located outside of the U.S. will also be considered.
Who
Should Apply?
The
program encourages applicants who are interested in:
- Participating
in special programs offered by other institutions
- Augmenting
their program of study with courses not offered at
Holy Cross
- Experiencing
a different social/cultural/academic environment
It
is recommended that students pursue this option during
their third year or the first semester of their fourth
year. Proposals should be submitted no later than
two weeks prior to the pre-registration period for which
a student plans to be away from the College.
Where
Should I Apply To?
Holy
Cross students have participated in: the Sea Semester
Program through Boston
University and Woods Hole; The
School for Field Studies, engaging in environmental
studies and community development at different international
sites; The
U.S. Department of Energy Research Program, pursuing
scientific research at national laboratories; enrollment
at Historically Black Colleges and Universities; the
Appalacian Semester at Union College in Tennessee.
What
Fields Of Study Are Available?
Students
have pursued study in a wide variety of fields, e.g.
architecture, urban planning, marine biology, film making,
journalism, engineering, etc.
