The Asian Studies Concentration

Students may elect a Concentration in Asian Studies in conjunction with any major. To elect a Concentration in Asian Studies, download the "Change of Plan" form from STAR and meet with Professor Susan Cunningham, Associate Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary and Special Studies (CISS) and Professor Thomas Gottschang, Director of Asian Studies, for signatures and advising. Students are normally expected to declare the Concentration by the second semester of their junior year.

Deadline for applications- Fall: November 3, 2006; Spring: April 4, 2007

Asian Studies China Track

Perspectives on Asia (Hist 103 or Hist 104) OR an approved course with a broad focus on Asia.

Five additional courses on Asia from at least two disciplines or covering at least two sub-regions of Asia.

Perspectives on Asia (Hist 103 or Hist 104) OR an approved course with a broad focus on Asia.

Five additional courses on China including three semesters of Chinese language above Elementary Chinese and two non-language courses on China. For more information on Chinese Language study at Holy Cross, visit the Chinese program site.


  • Study abroad at a Holy Cross approved program in Asia may be used to satisy some requirements towards the Asian Studies Concentrations.
