Reading children’s stories in College?  Yes, reading “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle and “The Wheels on the Bus” by Paul Zelinsky was an entirely new experience for students in Prof. Dennise Scott’s Intermediate ASL class at the College of the Holy Cross!  Students Pat Doherty, Kelly Skeuse, Ray Klein, Katie Corrigan and Pam Doig read these stories in English, interpreted them into American Sign Language and practiced with their instructor in class. The Holy Cross students then went to the Worcester Public Library and the Northborough Free Library to share these children’s stories with children and adults from the community.  Students coordinated their efforts as some spoke the story and others expressed it in American Sign Language (ASL).  The enthusiastic audience of kids was also shown how to sign some of the story and others even had a chance to “ride in the bus” that the Holy Cross students made!
