Alumni/ae Colloquium
Sent to the Frontiers: Jesuits, Alumni/ae, and the Work of the Church
Saturday, September 26, 2009
The Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture invited alumni/ae to participate in a colloquium to consider the Jesuit future of the College and to explore opportunities for involvement in new social justice ministries.
In the tradition of Ignatius and the early Jesuits, ministries were created and then entrusted to lay people to shepherd. This freed the Jesuits to move on to other needs that weren’t being met. Within a dialogue framed by a major theme of the Jesuits’ 35th General Congregation in 2008, “Sent to the Frontiers,” colloquium participants worked to identify ministries that “reach the geographical and spiritual places where others do not reach or find it difficult to reach” especially those frontiers artificially “raised between faith and human knowledge, faith and modern science, faith and the fight for justice.”
