Eligibility for Services
All current full-time students are eligible to receive personal and career counseling services. Students on leave from the College and graduates are eligible to use some career services. When time and circumstances permit, students on leave, graduates, faculty, administrators or staff members may consult with a staff member for a referral to counseling in the community.
Students may make an appointment to see a psychologist or counselor by either coming into or calling the Center. Other than in an emergency, students usually make their own appointments. Emergencies requiring prompt intervention take precedence over any previously scheduled appointments. Therefore, in the event of an emergency, students will be seen as soon as possible, preferably on the same day.
Requests for individual appointments are made by filling out a brief intake form. After scheduling an appointment, the secretary gives students an information sheet about counseling which describes: what counseling is, eligibility guidelines, appointment issues, and emergency phone numbers.
Whenever possible, students are given an appointment within a few days of the time they contact the Center. However, during periods when demand is greatest, a student may not be able to schedule an appointment for a week or more.
