What is sexual assault/rape?

Sexual assault/rape is fundamentally an act of violence. Rape is defined generally as forced sexual intercourse. It also includes situations where the victim is incapable of giving consent due to a disability or incapacitation.

Rape is the act of sexual intercourse with a person against one's will and consent, whether his/her will is overcome by force or fear resulting from the threat of force, or by drugs administered without consent, or when he/she is unconscious, intoxicated or otherwise physically unable to communicate willingness. Be aware that if someone initiates sex with you while you are incapacitated, for instance from alcohol, drugs, etc. or unconscious (passed out), it is considered sexual assault/rape.

The act of sexual assault/rape consists of penetration, however slight, without the express consent of the other party, including, but not limited to, the following situations:

  • Insertion of the penis, tongue, finger(s) or other objects into the vagina;
  • Insertion of the penis, tongue, finger(s) or other objects into the rectum;
  • Insertion of the penis into the mouth;
  • Placement of the mouth on to the penis.

The College will do all within its ability to be of assistance to those who are survivors of a sexual assault.
