Application Process

Sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply to the College Honors Program if they meet at least one of the following criteria: they receive a nomination by a faculty member who has taught them in a Holy Cross course, and/or they meet a minimum GPA. There are no GPA restrictions on faculty nominations. Invitations to apply, which include application instructions, are sent via email in late July. If you believe you should have received one but have not, please contact the Director of College Scholar Programs, Professor Melissa Schoenberger, at mschoenb@holycross.edu

Applications require a writing sample from a college class, short essays responding to prompts that change each year, a transcript, a résumé, and two faculty recommendations. Please see the invitation email for specific due dates, but typically applications are due in mid-September.

All applications are read by the Honors director, who will evaluate them for completeness, thoughtfulness, and originality. Applicants proceeding to the second round of the application process will be invited to interview with the director and a volunteer faculty member. Each year, no more than 33 sophomores are admitted, along with 2–5 juniors, depending on space in the program. Applicants will be notified of the outcome via email by early November.
