Ethical Expectations Of Candidates

Your job search creates ethical obligations for you as a candidate. As a student participant in the On-Campus Recruiting and Resume Referral Programs you are representing Holy Cross to all participating employers. Employers' continued interest in recruiting Holy Cross students and graduates will be significantly influenced by their experiences during the 2004-2005 recruiting season. For this reason the following expectations have been established to provide a framework for the professional relationships between candidates, employers, and colleges:

  1. Candidates should conscientiously and thoroughly prepare for the interviewing process and accurately present their qualifications and interests.
  2. Candidates should sign up for interviews only when seriously considering the particular position for which the organization is interviewing. Candidates are required to notify the Career Planning Center if they must cancel an on-campus interview appointment or the employer if they must cancel a scheduled visit to the employer’s office.

Candidates must sign up for interviews via the eRecruiting system 48 hours prior to each employer's interview day.

Candidates who wish to cancel a scheduled on-campus interview must do so 48 hours prior to the interview. Any candidate failing to give 48 hours notice when canceling an interview will have his/her on-campus interviewing privileges suspended pending a meeting with the Associate Director. After reviewing the circumstances and identifying specific conditions for reinstatement, the Associate Director may reinstate interviewing privileges. A student failing to appear for a scheduled interview, who gives no notice, will have his/her on-campus interviewing privileges revoked for the remainder of the academic year.
  3. Reimbursements for visits at an organization's expense should only be for those reasonable expenditures pertinent to the trip. If other organizations are visited on the same trip, the candidate should inform the organization and prorate the costs.
  4. An accepted offer is a contractual agreement that is expected to be honored. After accepting an offer, candidates must withdraw from the job search process and notify the Career Planning Center and any organizations with offers pending. Students who have accepted an offer of employment are no longer eligible to participate in either the On-Campus Recruiting or Resume Referral Programs. Reneging on an employment agreement is unethical and could have a significant impact on an employer's decision to continue to recruit Holy Cross students.
