Washington Semester Program

The Holy Cross Washington Semester Program is a multidisciplinary program that provides students with direct, hands-on experience related to their major field in Washington, D.C. The program offers students the opportunity to work with national leaders, engage in independent research, and live in a stimulating environment.

Participants in the Washington Semester gain a better understanding of the political process and the formulation of public policy and develop critical analysis skills, all while pursuing an independent research project that leads to a major paper known as the Washington thesis.

Washington students have worked in congressional offices, research groups, federal agencies, museums, and public interest organizations. Open to students in any major, admission to the program is highly competitive.
