Investing in Facilities

Our facilities shape the quality of the educational experience, and capital investments help us to attract the best students and faculty. We have already seen marked progress on this front, most notably in the stunning renovation of the Mary Chapel; renovation and expansion of the biology building, O’Neil Hall; the new senior apartments; and the construction of Smith Hall which ties together academic and student services and houses the Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture, while literally and symbolically forming the heart of campus.
Now we seek to extend that progress to other parts of campus. Haberlin Hall, home to our chemistry and physics departments, is our top priority. After years of wear and despite many cosmetic improvements, this facility and its equipment have become outdated. This is especially worrisome given our strength in these departments. For example, twice during the past 15 years Holy Cross has ranked first in the nation among undergraduate schools producing American Chemical Society-certified graduates. Furthermore, our young, talented chemistry and physics faculty members are performing groundbreaking work that elevates the reputation of the College and the education of our students. If we hope to maintain a first-tier reputation in chemistry and physics, our students and faculty need state-of-the art facilities that offer them hands-on experience with cutting-edge instrumentation.
