Foundation and Corporation Giving

Strong relationships with many of the nation's major private foundations and corporations have led to several decades of strong philanthropic grant support for Holy Cross. Through the Office of Grants and Corporate and Foundation Giving, the College competes for challenge grants, and works with corporate matching gift programs to provide greater incentive to Holy Cross alumni/ae and friends to donate even more generously for targeted or general purposes.

The corporate and foundation grants we are awarded:

  • assist in the development of new courses, concentrations and pedagogical approaches
  • permit the introduction of new technologies in the classroom, laboratory, library and office
  • promote our faculty's scholarly research
  • link Holy Cross and regional K-12 educational programs
  • establish scholarships for financially needy and talented students
  • contribute to building and maintaining campus infrastructure
  • institute creative student life opportunities
  • permit the College to honor its commitment to the highest standards of personalized instruction in the Jesuit, liberal arts tradition

A sampling of grant-funded programs include:

  • The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation supports a three-year program, "Conscience for Tomorrow." The goal of the Student Affairs-led program is to help the campus become a community in which all members thrive.
  • The Simeon J. Fortin Charitable Trust of Worcester, established after the death of the longtime Worcester grocer, supports grants that target faculty and students involved in cancer research. Six students receive summer research stipends to work with biology and chemistry faculty on cancer research projects. Funds are also available for supplies and student travel to professional meetings.
  • The William Randolph Hearst Foundations awarded the College a grant to establish the William Randolph Hearst Scholarship Endowment. Income from the endowment will support need-based scholarships for students in the Boston-Worcester area.
