Studies in World Literature
Studies in World Literatures is a major designed to introduce students to the best and most representative works in foreign literatures. Courses are conducted in English, using English translations of texts. Students learn approaches to textual interpretation, analysis and criticism, and gain an understanding of the cultural themes reflected in the respective works. Some courses consist of a comparative investigation involving the literatures of several cultural and/or linguistic communities.
Although courses are taught in English, majors are expected to develop intermediate proficiency in at least one national languages to assure direct contact with original texts.
